Studio Visit | Cali Framing

For the past seven years we have partnered with Simply Framed to supply all of our Standard Custom framing orders. When a print is sold through our website with framing included, we ship the unframed work to their factory in Southern California which is run by a group called Cali Framing.

Once there, Cali Framing’s team builds the frame, fits the work, packs and ships it out directly to our customers. Since we’ve been working with them for so long, we were excited to have the opportunity to see their operations in person and gain a clearer picture of the journey our prints go on after they’ve left our studio.

What’s been great for us is that as we take on larger hospitality projects, Cali Framing already operates at the scale we need to deliver large quantities of framed pieces at a time. They have a 50,000-square-foot production facility and over 40 employees.

Cali Framing really has two framing operations in one; their wall decor framing - which is what our Standard Framing option falls under and their Black Label framing where all pieces are solid hardwood and built at museum-quality standards. This side of the operations is where the Richard Serra and the Julie Mehretu prints show up to be framed!

What I most enjoyed about walking around the space with Barry, one of their Co-Founders was the level of transparency across all of their operations. Custom framing can easily feel like an intimidating and unnecessarily costly undertaking but seeing how many expert hands are part of the framing process and what their markups are for each of their materials, you can more clearly see how their pricing is structured.

We’re always happy to answer questions about framing! There is more information on our framing page and you can also always send us an email: info@jointheprintclub.com
