Touring the Heath Factory in Sausalito

In 1948 the talented ceramic artist, Edith Heath - fresh off of a successful exhibition of her work at the Legion of Honor, SF - bought a piece of land along the Sausalito waterfront and opened Heath ceramics.

Seventy year on and much of the design and production techniques Edith employed in her work are still evident at the Heath factory, where we were lucky enough to have a tour this past weekend. We were largely lead around the section of the factory that still employs largely the same manufacturing techniques Edith would have used (the other section is more high-tech and for higher-volume production) and it was just wonderful getting a glimpse into how these timeless pieces are made.
